The Travesty at Ground Zero

First, a stark reminder for anyone who’s forgotten that what happened on 9/11 was an act of war waged not upon a military installation, but innocent civilians. Among these victims, those who leaped to their death offer the most chilling insight as to just how horrific conditions were inside the World Trade Center. As many witnesses have stated, some held hands, while others jumped alone. When careening to a violent death from  90+ stories above street level is the better option, it’s gut-wrenching to even imagine what it must’ve been like inside.

If this video offends you, direct your anger at the Muslims who perpetrated 9/11, and the ones who are still waging Global Jihad.

And now, nine years later, when we still haven’t erected a memorial to honor the victims — including the incredibly heroic fire-fighters and policemen who willingly gave their lives to save others — sane Americans find themselves in the absurd position of having to fight against the travesty of a proposed mosque a scant few blocks away from the scene of utter destruction and human tragedy. Further, as AIP notes, “Part of one of the hijacked planes went through the building (Burlington Coat Factory) in question. That makes it very much a part of Ground Zero”.

My Conservative Republican Forum co-host and candidate for Florida State House, Steven Rosenblum, penned an excellent piece in which he (like many others) pointed out the real motivation behind the mosque as well as few inconvenient (for liberals anyway) truths:

In the Muslim faith building a mosque at the site of a military victory is a way of claiming that spot for Islam, the mosque becomes a marker to that victory. The original Mosque of Cordoba was built atop the ashes of a Christian church that a Muslim army had destroyed in the city of Andalusia around 711 A.D, as a way of marking the victory. So using the name Cordoba is not a coincidence and only makes this project’s intent even more questionable and its construction that much more objectionable.

The construction of this mosque, using this name, at this location would be akin to the Israelis attacking Mecca, destroying the Masjid al-Haram (the largest mosque in the world) and then building a synagogue in its place. The Islamic world would never tolerate such an act.

And while we’re discussing what the Islamic world would never tolerate, these “tolerant”, “sensitive” people would never allow a Christian church or a Jewish synagogue to be built anywhere in their countries, much less on or near hallowed ground. Make no mistake, Ground Zero is hallowed ground and should be treated as such. The only memorials or markers that should be built in or around the site of the World Trade Center should be to those that were murdered there, including the brave men and women of the New York City Police Department, the New York City Fire Department and the Port Authority Police of New York and New Jersey.

Amen to that.

And one of my very favorite Smart Girls, Andrea Tantaros takes it a step further by posing the question: Why won’t the Left defend Christians as fiercely as it defends Muslims? Please click on the link to read the entire piece, but here’s a sample of Andrea’s excellent analysis:

There has always been a double standard when it comes to understanding and explaining the Muslim religion verses Christianity.

While many Muslim countries ban women from voting, driving a car, and threaten to kill anyone who speaks of Christ within their borders, you rarely hear those on the left invoke sharp criticism or shake their finger in fury.

Instead, they save the attacks and their selective attention span for the random “Christian” who blocks an abortion clinic.

When the radical Islamic Fort Hood shooter claimed the life of twelve soldiers, the media dubbed him “troubled.”

A CNN.com article, along with many others, only identified him an “Army psychologist” and failed to make any reference to his ties to radical jihadism or make initial references to his religion – even after e-mails were found detailing his extremist views.

It’s no big deal when newspapers dub Christians “The American Taliban.” And it’s okay for Ted Turner to call Catholics with ashes on their head “Jesus freaks.” But God forbid you refer to the guys crashing the planes into building as Allah freaks.

I don’t understand why liberals, who enable and empower our enemies with their constant America-Christian-and-Jew bashing, refuse to get that their “tolerant” heads are just as valuable to a jihadist as any conservative one. While I am at it, the same goes for all of the 9/11 Truther freaks, the Ron Paul cultists and the Alex Jones devotees, all of whom align themselves with the radical left when it comes to matters of national security, Islamic terrorism and waging this war for our very survival.

Newsflash: Sharia Law and Global Jihad are stark realities we must confront and defeat, period. They exist not because of American foreign policy, but because they are steeped in centuries of hatred. This is a strident political ideology wrapping itself up in the cloak of religion and exploiting the over-sensitivity and hyper political correctness of modern western civilization. And liberals who support this mosque — along with 9/11 Truthers and the cult of Ron Paul — are useful idiots to their cause.

Let me expound upon Andrea’s salient point regarding the lone “Christian” abortion clinic bomber. Abortion is also the reason the alleged feminists among us remain silent in the face of the horrific abuses waged against Muslim women. They remain hypocritically mum about honor killings, stonings, the forced wearing of burquas, genital mutilation and other barbaric crimes because of their obsession with “a woman’s right to choose” (murder). Never mind that young girls in the Muslim world are married off to men three times their age, or that even here in the United States, Planned Parenthood covers up the rapes of minors, as proven by the intrepid young journalist, Lila Rose.

It’s all about abortion for these women, and since most of Christianity abhors the practice of killing the unborn (it’s still human life, no matter what stage it is in), they enthusiastically jump on the attack Christianity bandwagon, rather than do something truly courageous by condemning Islam’s oppression of women and the proposed Ground Zero mosque.

They are morally bankrupt.

Thank goodness, the hardworking men and women of New York are fighting back.

Politics and the Smart Girl, Part Two

Part Two of my Parcbench interview with Ashley Sewell of Smart Girl Politics covers the upcoming Smart Girl Summit and Ashley’s experiences as a young conservative woman. Please visit the site to read it all:

DD: Do you have any advice for other conservative women?

AS: Yes, recognize and respect your own power; use it wisely. As much as it’s a cliche, you’re not alone so don’t be afraid to jump in! We live in a catty, judgmental world, but you can’t let that stop you from doing the right thing for our country. Our freedom and our nation are just too important to worry about what other people might think.

Don’t ever underestimate the power of your own voice, because there’s definitely a ripple effect. In my own life, as I’ve grown in my political involvement so has my dad, and it has been such a special experience for me. I have also realized that I can never again be afraid to stand up for what I believe in, because by having the courage to do so, I may be inspiring someone else to do the same.

Thank goodness for young, intelligent and involved women like Ashley!

Politics and the Smart Girl, Part One

I recently had the pleasure of sitting down to talk with Ashley Sewell, Southwest Regional Coordinator for Smart Girl Politics, a wonderful grassroots organization that’s doing amazing work in taking our country back, one community at a time. The bright, intelligent and effervescent 26 year-old shared her story about becoming an active member of SGP, her own political awakening and her experience as a conservative young woman.  Head on over to Parcbench for the full interview, but here’s a teaser:

Little did Ashley Sewell realize when a woman approached her to take a photo of her sign at an Arlington, Texas Tea Party in April 2009, that she would end up becoming the Southwest Regional Coordinator for Smart Girl Politics (SGP), an online conservative grassroots movement for women that in a very short span of time, has grown from a blog with seven followers to a social media phenomenon with 40,000 members. Her responsibilities with SGP also include writing for their online magazine, Smart Girl Nation, and covering events like CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) and the Right Online Convention. I recently spoke to Ashley about her own political awakening and motivation for transitioning from a successful sales representative to a full-time activist and blogger.

Thank you to Ashley and SGP for being a true beacon of hope and change on the political scene!

Conservative, Independent Film Maker Jack Marino Joins Liberty Belle Hour on Thursday, June 17

I had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of Jack Marino on Facebook about 18 months ago, soon after he’d appeared as the guest of Nick Polyzos and Kender MacGowen on Young Gun Conservative talk radio. A true patriot and gentleman, one of Jack’s passions is the United States Military, the defenders of the freedoms we hold dear. In particular, he felt a debt of gratitude and obligation to ones who’d served in Vietnam, those “forgotten heroes” who were largely spat upon and repugnantly derided in American society as “baby killers” (quite ironically, I might add, by many Baby Boomers who don’t have the slightest qualms about abortion, nor a clue as to what actually transpired in Vietnam).

Jack set out to create a film in the tradition of John Wayne’s The Green Berets, which attempted to counteract the discontent and hostility at home over the USA’s involvement in the  Vietnam War with an unapologetically anti-communist, pro-American message, reflective of Wayne’s support for our troops and our efforts in southeast Asia. Alas, with the subsequent hippie-flower-power takeover of the centers of influence in Hollywood, pro-American, pro-US Military films quickly became the stuff of nostalgia as the box offices began furiously churning out one lefty, anti-war film after another.

From Coming Home to Born on the Fourth of July to Full Metal Jacket and Platoon, Hollywood continually sent a clear message to American movie-goers: if you’re looking for uplifting stories about military heroism and praise for your country’s willingness to send their strongest and bravest to the most hostile places in the world to protect and defend freedom,  find something else to do on your weekend.  Unlike popcorn, patriotism at the theater was in short supply.

Enter Jack Marino, who’d seen and heard enough. Raised with a strong belief in God, country and family, Marino invested countless hours and hard-earned treasure into producing a film that not only celebrates our men and women in uniform, but also the diversity of a country populated by people of various races, ethnicities and colors — all bound by a common love of freedom.

In a review of the film for Smart Girl Nation last year, I wrote:

The result is an engaging drama that follows the mission of an eclectic squadron of Marines as they attempt to rescue a Russian General who has defected to the United States. Representing the ethnic and racial diversity of America, this group of heroes includes a blond-haired surfer boy from Venice Beach, a young Latino from Los Angeles, a wise-cracking Italian-American from Brooklyn, and a stocky cowboy from Oklahoma. In keeping with the film’s tagline, “it was a time that turned boys into men and men into heroes,” when we first meet our core characters, they appear to behave more like frat boys than American soldiers, playing drinking games and fantasizing about girls on the beach.

Recently, Michael Moriarity raved about Forgotten Heroes for the excellent website, Big Hollywood:

Yes, Jack Marino’s version of a Platoon is the entire American Rainbow Family.

It is a guerilla tribute to the greatness of American guerillas.

You won’t forget it, I assure you … and, after the most disturbing moment begins to sift through your consciousness, you will begin to see the film as a measure of not only American courage but her divine irresistibility.

You won’t regret having taken the time.

Forgotten Heroes is actually unforgettable.

To purchase a DVD copy of Marino’s wonderful film, please visit the Forgotten Heroes website. And tune in to WAFS this Thursday, June 17 at 7 p.m. Eastern. Jack and I will take your calls at (561) 228-4020, and welcome you to join the live chat.
