Pray for Our Nation: The Economy

From the book Pray for Our Nation, published by Harrison House, p. 14:

Dear Father, in the name of the Lord Jesus, I pray for our economy. I know that even more than a strong military, a strong economy helps keep a nation powerful.

Father, I pray that You would raise up people of skill and wisdom who would affect the economy of our nation. Give them inspired ideas and a voice with the powers that be.

Cause Congress to vote aright in these matters. Give them foresight so that provision might be made for our nation’s future, not just its present.

Father, as the people of our nation continue to finance the preaching of the Gospel and help the poor all over the world, I pray that You would continue to prosper us more and more.

While we give praise to God, the supreme disposer of all  events, for  His interposition on our behalf, let us guard against the dangerous error of trusting in, or boasting of, an arm of flesh…

If your case is just, if your principles are pure, and your conduct is prudent, you need not fear the multitude of opposing hosts.

Pray for Our Nation: Patriotism

From the book, Pray for Our Nation from Harrison House publishers, p. 40:

Father, I pray in Jesus’ name that you would restore a social conscience to our nation.

I pray that we would again see the value of teaching our children the virtue of being good citizens — to not only live for the good of the individual but the good of others as well.

Dear Father, I desire to see our nation restored to godly integrity and excellence, so that our children and our citizens can be proud of their nation and proud to be called Americans.

In recognizing our duty to God and our country, keep us mindful to pray for our nation not only in our churches and our homes, but also in the quietness of our daily lives.

“Prayer covers the whole of man’s life. There is no thought, feeling, yearning, or desire however low, trifling, or vulgar we may deem it, which, if it affects our real interest and happiness, we may not lay before God. The whole  burden of the whole life of every man may be rolled onto God and not weary him, though it has wearied the man.”

Pray for Our Nation: National Protection

Back in 2003, when the Iraq War was just beginning, I came across a wonderful book in a Christian store called Pray for Our Nation, published by Harrison House in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A collection of thoughtful prayers written specifically for the USA, categories include Prayers for the Leaders of Our Nation, Prayers for the Social Welfare of Our Nation, Prayers for the Safety of Our Nation and Prayers for the Spiritual Growth of Our Nation.

With the midterms just 9 days away, I am finding  much comfort in reciting these beautiful prayers aloud. Action may be the anecdote for fear, but praying for the success of that action is vital. Everyday, I thank God I am an American citizen who had the privilege of being raised in a loving, stable, supportive home — one in which, among other things I was taught genuine love and appreciation for the United States of America and about God.

Today, I am posting the Prayer for National Protection, found on p. 48:

Most high God, I come to you in the name of Jesus, asking for divine protection for the people of this nation. I pray for the  safety of every man, woman and child. Keep us from harm’s way and provide protection from plans of destruction that our enemies have plotted. Stop strategies of destruction that our  enemies would try to evoke.

Give wisdom, understanding and discernment to those who provide protection. Help us to be watchful and alert to signs of wrongdoing. Provide insight to national  and local authorities on ways to guard,  defend and insure the safety of all American citizens, both at home and abroad. Help  us to unite with government leaders and law enforcement personnel in making this country a safe place to live, work and play; allowing Americans to enjoy freedom without fear.

“Our  prayer and God’s mercy are like two buckets in a well; while one ascends, the other descends.”

Sunday Meditation: Power of Love

From today’s Daily Word:

I claim the greatest power, the power of love.

In the world around me, there are many forms of power. And yet, though I am in this world, I am not of it. Regardless of outward appearances of wealth, strength or authority, the power of love is greater than any power in the world.

I turn my attention to the presence and power of God’s love that moves in and through me. I give up fear and hate in order to know the fullness of God’s love. With faith, I am able to love even those who seem to be my adversaries.

Love is the harmonizer, unifying people one to another. With love, I see the nothingness of petty differences and the power of cooperation and unity. I give expression to the overflowing love of God within me.

I say to you that listen, Love your enemies.–Luke 6:27

Saturday Meditation: Truth

From today’s Daily Word:

The Truth of God is active in me.

In this moment of prayer, I release any misconceptions that have limited my thinking and being in the world. Spirit in me reveals Truth to my soul.

I speak Truth to my body with affirmations of health and wholeness. As I contemplate my home and workplace, my friendships and family, I affirm the Truth of harmony and prosperity.

Truth is unchanging. It is love, peace, health and eternal goodness. As I contemplate my life through the lens of Truth, I do so with thanksgiving. Thank You, God, for the eternal Truth, everywhere present, revealed in prayer and expressed through me.

Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart to revere your name.–Psalm 86:11

Midweek Meditation: Design

From today’s Daily Word:

I design my life in cooperation with the Divine.

Made in the image and likeness of God, we human beings have the capacity to design and create through our spiritual, mental and physical capabilities. Each one of us is an artist, a creator at our core, designing and weaving the fabric of our lives in cooperation with the Divine. We may ask ourselves: With God as my partner, what masterpiece do I want to consciously create?

We each have unique skills and strengths. One person may create a brilliant computer program; another, a stunning work of art; and yet another, a harmonious home with children who feel loved and worthy. The ways in which we create are endless. May we all share our beautiful gifts with the world!

Gold leaf was hammered out and cut into threads to work into the blue, purple, and crimson yarns & in skilled design.–Exodus 39:3

Monday Meditation: Faith

From today’s Daily Word:

My faith is deep and abiding. I am forever one with God.

Faith is the foundation on which I stand. I nurture my faith with consistent prayer time and study of Scripture and other sources of inspiration. I remain open and receptive to the Christ spirit within.

If, momentarily, my faith feels shaky, I look back to a time when my faith felt strongest. I recapture the feelings of joy and peace in knowing my oneness with God. It may help to visit a special place where I find inspiration or call a friend who will help me stand firm. I may spend more time in meditation and prayer to renew my faith.

I am grateful for every experience that strengthens my faith and for the times that I trust God in all that I do. I am strong, and my faith is unshakable.

Keep alert, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong.–1 Corinthians 16:13
